Pawsitive Travel in National Parks

Some parks don’t allow dogs on trails for good reason – too many negative run-ins with people and bears. That makes travelling and camping with your dog challenging.

Koa Aloha, my Portuguese Water Dog, and I have discovered that staying outside the parks – in RV sites and campgrounds or hotels – offer the best opportunities to hike trails near the park and still drive through to photograph some awesome sights. Also, communities outside many National Parks, offer options for doggy day care so you can hike the trails forbidden to your dog. Just a thought…

On a recent trip to Glacier National Park, we stayed at Apgar Village, just inside the park, for a couple of nights. Koa still managed to get plenty of exercise and swims. And here he is, all tuckered out, lying on the dock at Apgar Village at sunset.
